Yaritza Pineiro is a New York City-based multidisciplinary artist whose work reflects the complexities of her everyday life and the world around her. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York, Pineiro's art has always been shaped by her personal experiences, cultural heritage, and the constant negotiation of identity.
While her earlier work centered on themes like Afro-Diasporic identity, colonialism, and social issues such as gender and colorism, Pineiro’s current practice has shifted toward a more fluid, introspective exploration of her day-to-day life. Her art is now less about addressing specific societal or historical narratives and more about reflecting the nuanced, personal experiences she encounters in her everyday world. It’s about the subtle ways in which culture, race, and identity intersect and manifest in the spaces she moves through—from the interactions she has with others to the physical environments she occupies. Pineiro is interested in the moments that often go unnoticed: the way small gestures or conversations can reveal something larger about identity, power, and belonging. These moments of personal reflection and social observation have become the foundation for her work, which now seeks to capture the complexity of simply being in the world, navigating multiple identities, and processing the fluid, ever-changing dynamics of modern life.
A 2021 graduate of Purchase College, SUNY, with a BSVA in Painting & Drawing, Pineiro’s art continues to explore the intersections of culture, race, and self-identity. But now, rather than focusing on specific issues, her work is an ongoing reflection of the experiences, relationships, and thoughts that influence her on a day-to-day basis. It’s about how the world shapes us and how we, in turn, shape the world.
